Cafe Gitane, Nolita, New York

The waitresses wear matching cute green dresses as uniforms, there's a mix of Moroccan/French inspired dishes and some from elsewhere such as the tuna ceviche with cabbage, coriander, rice noodles, toasted sesame and jalapenos pictured above, and they offer great coffee and lovely organic teas (they come with sugar syrup for sweetening!) - but at Cafe Gitane you come for the atmosphere. So far, my favourite place to eat in New York.

Oh I love Cafe Gitane. Brings me right back to NYC ^_^. I missed out on going to the 2nd location at the Jane Hotel, which I think is meant to have a few different meals on the menu. If you're into food I highly recommend you go on a food tour with Famous Fat Dave. Also these places are great:
Walters (for Lobster + champagne ^_^)
Marlow & Sons, Williamsburg
Roberta's, Bushwick
Luke's Lobster, LES
Porchetta, LES
Crif Dogs, St Marks Place
Cafe Habana (very crowded though)
